I work predominantly with assemblages and mixed media constructions. At some point, an interest in Christian imagery crept into my brain and I began incorporating these images and themes into my work, as well as making reliquaries. I have recently been exploring primitive, primal animal sculptures made from discarded materials.

All of the bits and pieces that go into a self-portrait or a reliquary or a box or a sculpture speak to me. The shapes and colors and condition of the stuff—the scraps of paper, the dentures dug up in a pit, the smashed penny, the grubby toys from Goodwill, the plastic cow found in the parking lot of the video store, the rusted tangle of wire, the .38’s, the broken glass—all speak to me. I am an inveterate gatherer of bits and pieces lost in unused corners. The way that the parts and pieces come together is their own private mythology of association, in their little hermeneutic universe.

My art, I should like to think, is a testament to human existence, a product of my bearing witness to what it means to be human in this place and in this time.
